going to San Diego makes us wonder why we live in Arizona.

Ahhh...San Diego.  What a ham, though, right?

Look how lovely.  Sigh.  Matt's first rotation of his 4th year of medical school (woot woot!) was in San Diego in the ER of the Naval Medical Center.  Pretty cool, right?  We were able to go with him for the first week because there was no available on-base housing so the Navy gave him a nightly stipend to spend on a hotel.  Rough, right?  Well, we decided to be wise and spend the full allotment each night (who wouldn't) and  stay at the Sheraton Hotel & Marina.  Beautiful.  If you are going to San Diego anytime soon, we highly recommend you stay there.  So nice.  We stayed in a club room that included access to the Club Lounge which served free breakfast daily and hours d'oevuvers in the evening.  We promise we were there for work...but Matt's schedule worked out such that we were able to spend quite a bit of time with him.  Super bonus.

Graham did most of the relaxing.  Seriously.

We had dinner in Gaslamp Alley...

...and ice cream at the Ghiradeli store.

Although it was cold on our teeth!

And then... we went to Sea World.  Active military plus three dependents get into Sea World for free once a year.  Super double bonus.  We had so much fun.  Graham loved every second of it.

We got to touch some starfish.

And Matt and Graham rode on some cute rides...

Look how cute.  Don't you just love 'em?

We went to the Shamu show first.  All the shows were great, but this one was the best.  Some of the shows, like the sea lion and the pet show are exactly the same as I remember them from oh...12 years ago?

Graham wanted to see the otters next.  He told us so.

At the end of the day we went to the Shamu show again, and sat in the splash zone.  We got soaked.  It was cold.  The water was freezing.  And salty.  Graham didn't know what to think about it.  (And disregard that creepy guy in the back smiling at the camera.  I have no idea who he is or why he looks so creepy there.  Eek.)

We made a trip to see our friends Russ and Mandy and their cute little baby at Huntington beach.  It was kind of a windy day, but great nonetheless.

Russel taught Matt how to surf.

Look how cute they are in their surf gear.  Although cute might not be the word they are looking for.  Handsome?  Yes.

Graham didn't want anything to do with the ocean.  He bawled.

See?  Traumatized.

We also spent time hanging out at the pool.  It was just cool enough that the water was a little cold, but not too bad.

By the end of the week Graham was brave enough to jump in the water to Matt.  Pretty cute.

Now we're home and we're not really sure why...Phoenix is hot.  Really hot.  It's these months in the summer that we all wonder why in the heck anyone wanted to live here in the first place.  In other news, I'm grateful for my air conditioner.
